HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 cc230-1W
Mr. James Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what plans he has for the future construction of nuclear-powered hunter/killer submarines.

Mr. Mason:

We will continue to build up the growing force of Fleet submarines which will provide the main striking power of the Navy, apart from the Polaris submarines, from the middle '70's. Three of these submarines are in service, two more are building and two including the first of an improved new class are on order. We are now considering what should be the eventual size of the force, and the rate of construction.
