§ Sir D. Kaberryasked the Minister of Public Building and Works why the season ticket for visiting ancient monuments and public buildings has been increased to 15s. as from 1st January, 1968, from its present price of 10s.
§ Mr. Mellish:Since the present charge was introduced five years ago the cost of upkeep at monuments has materially increased and many individual admission charges have had to be raised. Many additional monuments have been opened to season ticket holders and a great deal has also been spent on improving the amenities.
The season ticket allows unlimited visits to hundreds of monuments throughout Great Britain and I am confident that at the new rate of 15s. (7s. 6d. for old age pensioners and children) it still represents quite remarkable value for money will continue to prove a considerable attraction for the visiting public, including both British and foreign tourists.
