HC Deb 12 December 1967 vol 756 cc88-9W
Mr. Brewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state in terms of £ sterling per head of population the balance of payments between taxation paid and identifiable expenditure in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England, respectively.

Mr. Harold Lever

I refer the hon. Member to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Berwick and East Lothian (Mr. Mackintosh) on 20th November. Some figures are available for taxation and expenditure in Scotland, and England and Wales, and these have been given in reply to recent Questions. However, for the reasons given in reply to a Question from the hon. Member for Moray and Nairn (Mr. G. Campbell) on 9th November, the available figures are not comparable.—[Vol. 754, c. 283; Vol. 753, c. 159–70.]
