Mr. Dempsey

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many complaints were made against police officers by members of the public in each of the last three years; how many were substantiated; and how many police man hours were involved in the investigations.

In 1966 763 complaints were made against police officers of which 353 were found to be groundless and 126 were withdrawn by the complainer; in 1965 there were 721 complaints of which 358 were found to be groundless and 126 were withdrawn; figures for 1964 are not readily available.
