HC Deb 12 December 1967 vol 756 cc92-3W
81. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware that the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 has been used to permit alienation of certain of Great Britain's foreshores in such a way as to prevent their free use by bathers and other citizens; and if he will take steps by legislation or otherwise to amend that Act and to prevent these abuses.

Mr. MacDermot

No. The powers conferred by the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, 1949 have been used to facilitate access to the foreshore, not to deny it. If the hon. Member has any particular case in mind perhaps he would care to write to me about it.
