HC Deb 11 December 1967 vol 756 cc24-5W
81. Mr. Russell Kerr

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works what discussions he has had recently with the United States Air Force authorities in the United Kingdom on the subject of the employment of British contractors for airfield marking operations and on the use of British materials for such work; and if he will make a statement on the results.

Mr. Mellish

In July, last year, it was agreed that an existing U.S.A.F.E. pavement marking machine might be used at U.S.A.F. main flying bases in the United Kingdom provided that it was operated only by United States uniformed personnel and marking was confined to operational areas. Roads and parking areas, for instance, were excluded.

The U.S.A.F. have strictly observed these arrangements but I am considering whether they should be reviewed in the light of representations my Department has received from certain British contractors.
