HC Deb 11 December 1967 vol 756 cc10-1W
68. Mr. Eadie

asked the Minister of Labour how many school leavers got apprenticeships in the county of Midlothian in the year 1966 and to the nearest available date in 1967; and how many he estimates that there will be in 1968.

Mr. Hattersley:

1,609 in 1966 and 1,550 during the first ten months of 1967. I do not expect any substantial change in the figures for 1968.

74. Mr. Will Owen

asked the Minister of Labour how many school-leavers, male and female, are registered at the employment exchanges in Ashington and Morpeth, in the county of Northumberland; how long they have been waiting for employment; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Fernyhough

On 13th November 18 boys and 17 girls at Ashington, 3 boys and 4 girls at Morpeth. Statistics showing how long school leavers have been registered for work are not available. Youth Employment Officers will continue to do everything possible to help these young persons find employment.
