§ Mr. Ednyfed Hudson Daviesasked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) if he is aware that a new inland roadway leaving the existing A55 to the east of Colwyn Bay and rejoining it at Aber would solve the traffic problems of Colwyn Bay, Llandudno Junction, Conway, Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechan; and if he will give consideration to this project;
(2) if, in view of the objections in the Conway and Deganwy areas to proposals for a new road crossing at the mouth of the Conway Estuary, he will now make a statement on the traffic census carried out in the area.
§ Mr. Cledwyn HughesThe final report of the comprehensive traffic study of the Colwyn Bay, Llandudno and Conway area is not yet available, though I expect to receive it soon. I shall, with its help consider the alternatives open to me, including the inland highway that has been suggested as a possible line for a by-pass for through traffic. I should however point out that a new road along such a route would raise considerable problems of altitude, gradient and cost.
