HC Deb 11 December 1967 vol 756 cc57-8W
Mr. McGuire

asked the Minister of Power (1) what action he is taking over the proposal made to him by the Coal Industry National Consultative Council that there should be an independent inquiry into the technical and financial aspects of the nuclear power programme;

(2) what action he is taking as regards the recommendation of the Select Committee on Science and Technology that there should be an independent inquiry into the cost comparisons between nuclear power and conventional stations.

Mr. Marsh

I am considering the Select Committee's Report, but very careful studies have already been made. They have involved, the Atomic Energy Authority, the Central Electricity Generating Board (with more experience in this field than any similar body in the world) and the Chief Scientist's Division of the Ministry of Power. I know of no "independent" body with a comparable degree of expertise or experience.
