§ 60. Mr. Tilneyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what consultations he had with local authorities before issuing his circular to parents drawing their attention to their children's entitlement to free school meals for which local authorities are financially responsible.
§ Mr. Gordon WalkerThe broad lines of publicity for free school meals were discussed with the Joint Working Party representing local authorities and the Department at the end of July. Drafts of a leaflet for parents and a circular to L.E.A.s were sent in late August to members of the Working Party and to the local authority associations, and their comments led to a number of amendments. I also personally saw representatives of the Association of Municipal Corporations in late October.
