§ Mr. Haleasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will inquire why Mr. Thorpe, of Acre Lane, Oldham, committed to Strangeways for non-payment of debt, was sent to hospital for urgent treatment; and whether treatment was there given.
Mr. TavernaThe medical officer at Strangeways prison considered that this prisoner's condition required specialist medical treatment which could not be given in the prison hospital. He has twice attended an outside hospital as an out-patient where he has been given appropriate treatment. The hospital will continue to see him as and when necessary. He is at present in the prison hospital where he is receiving every medical care and attention; and his general heath gives no cause for concern.
