Bromley-Davenportasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware of the inadequacy of the present legislative provisions enabling adequate compensation to be given to the owners of houses which suffer serious damage from the routeing of highways very close to them; and whether he will introduce an amendment of the law in this respect.
§ Mr. MacDermotThe law of compulsory purchase provides for adequate compensation to owners whose properties are depreciated and part of whose land has 267W been taken for such purposes as highways. My right hon. Friend does not accept that there should be a general right of compensation for depreciation of values to other nearby properties caused by road works or other public activities.
