asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action he has taken on the information provided to him by the hon. Member for Shrewsbury that the widow of a civil servant who, on receipt of an increase of £23 4s. in her widow's pension, was informed that she must pay £19 6s. tax on this increased amount.

I have sent the hon. Gentleman a copy of a letter of 27th September in which my hon. Friend the Financial Secretary explained that the increase in this lady's income was about £30 and the increase in her tax about £7.
