asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many grants have been made to voluntary organisations in Wales, by his Department, for the provision of new amenities; and to what category of amenities these grants apply.

In the financial year 1966–67 73 offers of grant, totalling £164,116, were made under the Physical Training and Recreation Act, 1937, and the Social and Physical Training Grant Regulations, 1939, to voluntary organisations in Wales for the provision of new or extended amenities and the purchase of equipment. Nine grants were made towards the cost of village halls, 41 to local clubs and organisations for the provision of playing fields and other sports facilities, and 23 grants for the provision of buildings and equipment for the youth service.
