Mr. Carlisleasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the substantial increase in the volume of low-priced cloth now being imported into the United Kingdom from Austria; and what steps he is proposing to take to safeguard the Lancashire textile industry from this new threat.
§ Mr. JayI am aware of the increase in the volume of fabric imports from Austria; but their general price level is above the average for similar imports from all sources. If the hon. Member has any evidence to show that particular types of cloth are being dumped, I should be glad to receive it.
§ 81. Mr. Oakesasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will require a certificate of domestic value to be produced before allowing the import into this country of any cotton, synthetic or blended textiles.
§ 85. Mr. Draysonasked the President of the Board of Trade if he now proposes 294W to authorise increased imports from Japan of dress fabrics containing metallised yarns.
§ Mr. JayNo. I have no intention of altering the arrangements for the import of Japanese textiles in 1967.
