HC Deb 26 April 1967 vol 745 c308W
Mr. Ford

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what facilities are available in technical colleges and universities for students wishing to pursue a course of study up to flight training stage with a view to entry into the commercial aviation profession.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

Courses of instruction in air navigation covering part of the syllabuses of the Board of Trade for Pilots' and Navigators' licences are held at the Department of Navigation of the Sir John Cass College and at certain private colleges. To obtain a Commercial Pilot's licence, however, it is necessary for candidates to show evidence that they have attended a course of instruction approved by the Board of Trade. Such courses are available at the College of Air Training, Hamble, and at three private flying schools, the London School of Flying, Elstree, Oxford Air Training School, Kidlington, and Airwork Services Training, Perth. In addition, a number of universities and technical colleges offer courses in aeronautical engineering and in other subjects which may be of value to students wishing to make a career in civil aviation.
