HC Deb 26 April 1967 vol 745 c300W
99. Mr. Peyton

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the reasons for the closure of the runways at the Royal Naval Air Station, Yeovil-ton, from Whitsun until mid-August; and if he will give an estimate of the extra costs which will result from the dispersal of the squadrons.

Mr. Foley

Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton will be closed to flying from 29th May to 14th August while work is being carried out to repair the main and secondary runways, the taxitracks and hardstandings, and to prepare these for operational use by Phantom and Sea Vixen aircraft.

Most of the Station's air tasks are being deployed to other Service stations and the resulting extra cost will not be great. They are expected to be of the order of £10,000.
