HC Deb 26 April 1967 vol 745 cc285-6W
73. Mr. Rankin

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he has now considered the report of the conference on aircraft noise caused by civil aircraft; why military aircraft are exempted from its conclusions; whether he is satisfied that greater speed can be achieved without increasing engine power and the selling cost of the aircraft; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

The answers are:

  1. (a) Yes.
  2. (b) The conference was concerned only with noise from civil aircraft. Different factors determine the extent to which reduction of noise from military aircraft is practicable.
  3. (c) There are many factors involved in the design and costing of future aircraft and it is difficult to generalise about this.
Her Majesty's Government endorse the conclusions of the conference and the proposals for further action. In this connection I would refer my hon. Friend to my reply to the Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Putney (Mr. Hugh Jenkins) on 17th April.—[Vol. 745, c. 24.]
