asked the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent farmers' rents have risen in Scotland during the last three years.

In the three years to 1965–66 the average rent changes in Scotland on a representative sample of full-time tenanted farms were as follows:

1963–64 … … +7.8 per cent.

1964–65 … … +6.2 per cent.

1965–66 … … +9.2 per cent.

The change in the current rent year to May 1967 is provisionally estimated at +6.5 per cent.
