HC Deb 26 April 1967 vol 745 c313W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Minister of Labour what was the total number of registered disabled persons unemployed in the area of the Huddersfield Employment Exchange in July, 1966, and in March, 1967.

Mr. Fernyhough

The numbers of registered disabled persons registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Huddersfield Employment Exchange, distinguishing between Section I (suitable for ordinary employment) and Section II (unlikely to obtain employment other than under special conditions) were:

Section Section
I II Total
11th July, 1966 95 17 112
13th March, 1967 169 13 182

Mr. Hobden

asked the Minister of Labour if he will take steps by legislation or otherwise to ensure that employers do not evade their obligations to employ where possible the three per cent. of disabled persons.

Mr. Fernyhough

Employers are contacted regularly to remind them, where necessary, of their quota obligations under the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944; and action as the circumstances warrant is taken where contravention of, or failure to comply with the provisions of the Act is revealed.
