asked the Minister of Transport if she is aware that financial loss is being inflicted on British Railways by the new practice of deterring returning sailors from visiting their families because they have recently been deprived of concessionary railway fares: and if she will issue a general direction, in the public interest, to the Railways Board, to restore the concession.

No. I accept the Railway Board's view that the withdrawal of these concessionary fares will add to their revenue and thus reduce their demands on the taxpayer.
