HC Deb 26 April 1967 vol 745 c304W
Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Minister of Transport what proposals and improvements she will make to deal with the increased number of heavy transport vehicles using the A30 spine road through Okehampton to Cornwall.

Mr. Swingler

Traffic census figures indicate that the increase in heavy vehicles using the A30 in the Okehampton area is less than one half of the average national increase.

Westwards from Exeter a number of schemes have been carried out recently and more are in progress or programmed. By-passes of Okehampton and Launceston are being considered for inclusion in the preparation pool.

Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Minister of Transport, in view of the improvement on the A30 west of Launceston, why only limited reconstruction has been undertaken in Devon.

Mr. Swingler

Limited reconstruction has been carried out on the A30 in Devon and Cornwall both east and west of Launceston. On the section between Exeter and Bodmin three small improvement schemes are in progress in Devon and two in Cornwall; five further schemes are programmed in Devon and two in Cornwell.
