§ 62. Mr. Peter M. Jacksonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what steps have been taken to implement the recommendations of the Report of the Committee on Hedgerow and Farm Timber, 1955.
§ Mr. SkeffingtonThis was a wide-ranging report with a large number of recommendations which were brought to the attention of public authorities concerned at the time. A working party was set up in 1966 to review the report and to see what further action could be taken in the light of decisions already reached in the White Paper on the Countryside. I think there is now a much more general recognition of the need to preserve and replant timber, which should be encouraged by the Government's proposals for the countryside. My right hon. Friend is in touch with his right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture and other colleagues and I will keep my hon. Friend informed.
