HC Deb 21 April 1967 vol 745 cc189-90W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what proportion of non-commissioned British recruits into the military forces are given technical training.

Mr. Reynolds

Approximate proportions for men in highly skilled trades, such as artificers, engineers, electrical and air mechanics, are as follows:

Royal Navy 50 per cent.
Army 20 per cent.
R.A.F. 40 per cent.

Most of the rest are in skilled and semi-skilled occupations, for example medical technicians, drivers, cooks, and clerical staff; and all receive the training proper to their professional skills.
