§ 87. Mr. Emrys Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Defence what was the original estimate of the cost of the Royal Naval Polaris School; what it is now; and why the cost of it was not included in the Polaris submarine programme when it was first announced.
§ Mr. MasonThe first estimate of cost for the Royal Naval Polaris School was£9 million and as I informed my hon. Friend on 21st February, 1967, the final cost of the School to Defence Votes was£7.5 million. At the time the original estimates for the programme were formulated there was insufficient information available to enable the cost of the School to be assessed.—[Vol. 741, c.249.]
