§ Mr. George BrownThe Eighteen-Nation Disarmament Conference has now adjourned to permit discussions on the non-proliferation proposals with our North Atlantic Treaty allies, including the Federal German Republic. Consultation continues; and we hope to have a draft10W treaty on the table when the Committee resumes on 9th May.
§ Mr. Allaunasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement on progress towards a nonproliferation agreement.
§ Mr. George BrownThe Eighteen Nations Disarmament Committee has now adjourned for a short period, to allow for further discussions on the nonproliferation proposals within the Eastern and Western Alliances. We hope that these discussions will result in the tabling of a draft non-proliferation treaty when the Committee resumes. It is accepted by all concerned that the development of civil nuclear technology must be fully safeguarded by the treaty.
