HC Deb 17 April 1967 vol 745 c19W
Mr. David Watkins

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the unemployment caused by the liquidation of Messrs. Dorran's (Northern) Limited at Consett; and what steps he is taking to remedy the situation.

Mr. Fernyhough

About 70 of the workers who were employed at this firm's Consett factory are at present registered as unemployed. Everything possible is being done to help them to find other jobs. About 135 other men employed on site work at Newburn and Cramlington have been discharged, but very few have registered and it is thought that the rest will have found other jobs without undue difficulty.
