§ Mr. Geoffrey Lloydasked the Minister of Technology if he is satisfied that the centre for advanced studies on the design of machine tools and control equipment, which he proposes should be linked to the 272W University of Strathclyde, will not duplicate, in equipment or lines of research, the work already well established at the University of Aston in Birmingham; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. BennOn the question of equipment, I would refer the right hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Selly Oak (Mr. Gurden) on the 2nd March, 1967. I am well aware of the research on machine tools and control equipment that is being carried out not only at the University of Aston but at many other universities throughout the country. The Institute of Advanced Machine Tool and Control Technology will help to promote the application of results of this research to industrial practice. The unique facilities of the Institute will be available to post-graduate students from any of these Universities.
