HC Deb 14 April 1967 vol 744 c270W
Mr. Bob Brown

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works, in view of the recurring failure of building firms in the North-East, particularly industrialised building firms, and of the need for an increase in industrialisation, if he will now take steps to set up a Government-sponsored industrialised building department in north-east England.

Mr. Prentice

While noting the difficulties of certain building firms in the North East, I do not consider that setting up the department suggested by my hon. Friend would really help. The best way to encourage the use of industrialised building methods is by organising an adequate and continuous demand for building by local authorities and other clients and by promoting continuity of operation through improved contractual procedures. The Government is pursuing this policy with considerable success.
