HC Deb 14 April 1967 vol 744 cc255-6W
Mr. Kershaw

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware that the £400 improvement grant is inadequate in areas such as the Cotswolds where many old houses are substantially built of stone and that this limit discriminates against such areas and is damaging to such areas of outstanding natural beauty; what proposals he has to remedy this situation; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellish

My right hon. Friend is always ready to consider sympathetically applications from local authorities who wish to give improvement grants higher than the normal maximum in these circumstances. If the hon. Member has any particular case in mind I shall be glad to look into it if he will send me details.
