HC Deb 12 April 1967 vol 744 c213W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has had about conditions of employment of au pair girls; and what action he proposes to take.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

The main representations are that the present minimum age of 15 is too low, that a standard form of agreement should be signed by theau pair girl and the head of the receiving family, and that there should be a system of licensing the agencies which deal with au pair placings. The first two points are covered by recommendations made by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe which I shall shortly be discussing with representative organisations in this country. The third may be met by the Employment Agencies (Regulation) Bill.
