§ Mr. John Leeasked the President of the Board of Trade what has been the value of export credits guarantee facilities afforded to British exporters exporting goods to Ghana during the last 10 years; and what sums have been irrecoverably lost as a result of the transactions concerned.
§ Mr. DarlingDuring the 10 years 1957–1966, the Export Credits Guarantee Department insured some £125 million of exports to Ghana and wrote off just under £14,000 as irrecoverable under claims paid. More than £7 million was paid in claims during the last financial year because of economic difficulties in Ghana and substantial sums will be paid this year under the agreed debt settlement but it is reasonable to expect that these sums will be recovered in full.
