§ 41. Mr. Leadbitterasked the Minister of Technology if he will make a statement on the growth of the British computer industry and its export performance.
§ Dr. BrayReturns from manufacturers in the U.K. show that the total production of computers, including peripheral equipment, was £44 million, £35 million and 151W £69 million in 1964, 1965 and 1966 respectively.
Of these totals £5 million, £6 million and £31 million respectively represent production of export.
I am encouraged by this evidence of the expansion of the computer industry at home and by its export performance, both of which rest upon the commercial success of its products and look forward to even greater achievements.
§ 43. Mr. David Priceasked the Minister of Technology whether he will revise his Department's estimate of some 3,000 computers in use in the United Kingdom by 1970 given in paragraph 26 of the Report of an Interdepartmental Working Group on Computer Education.
§ Dr. BrayI shall be keeping this estimate, which relates only to computers for use in offices under review.
