HC Deb 04 April 1967 vol 744 cc21-2W
Q14. Mr. Rowland

asked the Prime Minister what consideration was given during the week ended 26th March to the legal implications of bombing or setting fire to the "Torrey Canyon" and its contents.

Q17. Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Prime Minister why the Government did not arrange for the oil to be pumped out of the "Torrey Canyon" into other tankers as soon as the ship was stranded.

Q18. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Prime Minister if he will make a statement on the public, national and other damage caused by the "Torrey Canyon" disaster and on the plans he has to compensate citizens who have suffered damage thereby.

Q19. Mr. Palmer

asked the Prime Minister what steps are being taken to protect the port of Bristol and beaches in the upper reaches of the Bristol Channel from oil pollution from the wreck of the tanker "Torrey Canyon".

Q20. Sir D. Renton

asked the Prime Minister whether he will seek to call an international conference to agree upon measures which would eliminate the risk of oil pollution on a large scale by limiting the size of oil tankers, by the avoidance of hazardous routes by all oil tankers and by such other measures as may be found necessary.

Q21. Mr. Rowland

asked the Prime Minister why no attempt was made to set fire to the "Torrey Canyon" and its oil before 28th March.

The Prime Minister

I would refer hon. Members to the White Paper issued earlier today and the Statement which I made after Question Time.
