HC Deb 04 April 1967 vol 744 c13W
50. Mr. Judd

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs, in view of the general situation in Southern Africa, what plans he has in hand for increased co-operation with Botswana, Lesotho, and Swaziland; and when he intends to make an official visit to the territories.

Mr. Bowden

It is the policy of Her Majesty's Government to co-operate as fully as possible with Botswana and Lesotho and, of course, we still have responsibility for Swaziland and therefore our links with the Protectorate are very close indeed. There is ample evidence of this in the financial and technical assistance which under the direction of my right hon. Friend the Minister of Overseas Development is given to all three countries to the maximum extent which we can afford. My hon. Friend the former Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies visited all three countries last autumn. I have no plans to visit them at present.
