§ Mr. Stratton Millsasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what progress has been made in the reduction of £100 million in Government overseas expenditure announced on 20th July.
§ Mr. CallaghanSavings of about £10 million a year will flow from our current plans to withdraw forces in the Far East. Other reductions such as those in respect of Germany are at the stage of planning and consultation and I cannot be so specific. Similarly negotiations and consultations are needed about individual parts of the aid programme. I regret therefore that detailed figures cannot be given at this stage, but substantial savings have been or are in the process of being secured.
