HC Deb 25 October 1966 vol 734 cc134-5W
Mr. Fitt

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the net transfer of financial resources from the British Exchequer to Northern Ireland during each of the years between 1947–48 and 1965–66, inclusive.

Mr. Diamond

The following table covers payments from the United Kingdom Exchequer to the Northern Ireland Exchequer in respect of:

  1. (i) Residuary Share of Reserved Taxes;
  2. (ii) Unemployment and Family Allowances Agreement and the Social Services Agreement;
  3. (iii) "Remoteness" Grant under the Agriculture Act 1957;
  4. (iv) Training of ex-Servicemen;
  5. (v) Repayment of war-time savings borrowed from the Northern Ireland Exchequer;
  6. (vi) Advances to the Northern Ireland Exchequer under the Miscellaneous Financial Provisions Act 1950.

It does not show tax receipts from Northern Ireland by the United Kingdom Exchequer nor certain payments made in Northern Ireland which are not transactions with the Northern Ireland Exchequer.
