HL Deb 20 October 1966 vol 277 c196WA
LORD MANCROFT

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the proposals to rebuild the Swiss Embassy in Bryanston Square are excluded by reason of diplomatic immunity from formal planning procedure, and if so, whether Her Majesty's Government will ask the Swiss Government if the design for their new Embassy may conform to the existing pattern of Bryanston Square.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT (LORD KENNET)

Development by foreign Governments is subject to planning permission. An application by the Swiss Federal Government to rebuild their Embassy in Bryanston Square is under consideration by Westminster City Council, the local planning authority. I understand that the Swiss Government agreed in 1964 to replace No. 21, Bryanston Square with a building which would have a replica elevation to the Square.

House adjourned at ten minutes past seven o'clock.
