Mr. Dodds-Parkerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the fact that up to 20 per cent. of motor vehicles, largely in urban areas, have no current licence, he will introduce legislation to empower traffic wardens to require drivers to produce valid licences and insurance at a police station.
§ Mr. TaverneTo the best of my knowledge, the proportion of unlicensed vehicles is much less than the hon. Member suggests. My right hon. Friend will consider whether the duties of traffic wardens should be extended when he has the report of the Police Advisory Board working party which is studying police manpower.
