§ Mr. BottomleyFixed allocations to individual countries are not made in advance. Technical Assistance is given in response to specific requests from Governments and the amounts actually spent for each country during 1966–67 will not be known until after the end of the financial year. During the six months up to 30th September, 1966, Technical Assistance expenditure has been incurred under Class II, 9, C of the Civil Estimates for the following Non-Commonwealth countries in Africa; Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo (Kinshasa), Congo (Brazzaville), Dahomey, Ethiopia, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Libya, Malagasy Republic, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Tunisia, and the United Arab Republic. In some cases the expenditure represents costs arising from services provided in previous years.
An indication of the scale of our technical assistance to these countries in 1965 can be obtained from the June 1966 edition of statistics of British Official Economic Aid, of which I am sending the hon. Member a copy.
