HC Deb 30 November 1966 vol 737 c106W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give details of the steps he is taking to increase and promote the prosperity of next year's tourist industry in Scotland; and what proportion and numbers of tourists to Great Britain visited Scotland during each of the last five years.

Mr. Ross

The Scottish tourist industry will share in the benefits of the expanded home holidays campaign which the British Travel Association is mounting with the aid of a Government grant.

Precise annual estimates of overseas visitors to Scotland are not available, but in 1965 about 300,000 overseas visitors stayed overnight in Scotland: this means 11 per cent. of all visitors to the United Kingdom.
