asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what action he proposes to take on the independent consultant surveyor's and the district auditor's reports alleging overspending by the Salford Council's Direct Labour Building Department; and what steps he proposes to take to safeguard the ratepayers of Salford.

The consultant was appointed by the council. His report was made to it and it is for the council to consider what action is called for As regards the district auditor's report, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave on 25th November to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Edgbaston (Mrs. Knight).—[Vol. 736, c.380.]
