§ 43. Mr. G. Campbellasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what are the amounts of the reductions in public investment in Scotland, arising from the economic measures announced in July, in central and local government programmes and in the nationalised industries' programmes.
§ Mr. CallaghanIn 1967–68, £3.5 million in the programmes of the Scottish departments and local authorities and about £6 million in nationalised industries' programmes. The Scottish economy was protected from the full effect of the July economic measures by the exemptions applied in development areas. It will be reinforced by such Government measures as the additional programme of seven advance factories in Scotland and the grants and loans payable when the recommendations of the Geddes committee on shipbuilding are implemented.
