HC Deb 29 November 1966 vol 737 c79W
Mr. Maurice Macmillan

asked the Minister of Social Security how many permanently disabled persons there are in England and Wales, and how many of these are working in part-time employment and sheltered employment, respectively.

Mr. Gunter

I have been asked to reply.

I have no information about the number of permanently disabled persons in England and Wales but 590,318 persons substantially handicapped in obtaining or retaining employment were included in the Disabled Persons Register on 18th April, 1966 (the latest date on which information is available). I have no precise information regarding the number of these who are employed on a part-time basis. According to the latest information available 11,421 disabled persons are engaged in employment under sheltered conditions.
