§ 80. Mr. Currieasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps have been taken by Her Majesty's Government with a view to re-establishing diplomatic relations with the United Arab Republic and to improving Anglo-United Arab Republic relations.
§ Mr. George BrownIn the light of indications that the United Arab Republic Government might have expressed interest in resuming diplomatic relations with this country I have instituted certain inquiries. As my visit to the Soviet Union coincided with that of Field Marshal Abdul Hakim Amer, I also took the opportunity to have an informal word with him. I cannot forecast whether or not these contacts will lead to a resumption of relations. Her Majesty's Government desire to improve Anglo/United Arab Republic relations but as the House is aware there has to be good will on both sides.
