§ Mr. William Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that there is a shortage of places in detention centres serving the West Midlands; and what proposals he has for providing more places.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsThe new centre at Whatton, Nottinghamshire, which opened on 23rd November, should help to improve the position in the Midlands. The total number of detention centre places for boys is now 1,800. I have plans to provide 850 more places during the next few years, and some of these will be available to courts in the West Midlands.
