§ Mr. John Huntasked the Minister of Transport whether she will make a statement on the result of her investigations into the traffic jam in the Park Lane-Hyde Park Corner area on the evening of 16th November; and what steps she is taking to prevent a recurrence of such traffic congestion in Central London.
§ Mrs. CastleThese are, of course, matters for the Greater London Council, as traffic authority, and the police. It is difficult to analyse the precise reasons for congestion. I understand that a number of comparatively small factors may have contributed to it on this occasion. The Greater London Council emphasise that in near-capacity conditions small incidents can have a major effect on the traffic situation.
