HC Deb 22 November 1966 vol 736 cc277-8W
Mr. More

asked the Minister of Power whether he is satisfied that no tip of coal waste in Shropshire is a hazard to safety; and whether he will give details of the arrangements for inspecting these tips.

Mr. Marsh

I have been assured by the National Coal Board that no coal tip in Shropshire under its control constitutes a hazard to safety. Following the Aberfan disaster the National Coal Board supplemented its normal inspection procedures and all its tips in Shropshire were specially inspected and will be kept under close surveillance.

With regard to coal tips outside the control of the National Coal Board, my right hon. Friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government has asked all local authorities in England to inspect other spoil heaps in their area which for any reason appear to be unstable or might be a danger to the public.
