§ 78 and 79. Sir T. Beamishasked the Minister of Transport (1) if she will give an assurance that the construction of a 226W ring road in Newhaven between the bridge over the Ouse and the junction of the A259 with the A275 is now included in the classified road programme; and what time schedule she has under consideration for the construction of this road;
(2) what progress has been made in her discussions with the authorities concerned about the Newhaven relief road, of which the suggested ring road forms a part; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mr. SwinglerThese are both classified road schemes for which the East Sussex County Council is the responsible highway authority.
Discussions about the Newhaven relief road are proceeding and several alternative schemes are now being considered in detail.
Without prejudice to this my right hon. Friend is prepared to make grant available for the construction of the southern section of the ring road between the swing bridge and the A259/A275 junction just as soon as a scheme can be made ready.
