Mr. Carmichael

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state the number of industrial development certificate applications granted in non-development areas each year since 1960 together with the number of applications for the same period.

Mr. Darling

Industrial Development Certificate approvals in Great Britain, outside the development districts since 1960 were as follows:—

asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) if he will state the total square footage of space applied for and the total granted in non-development areas under the industrial development certificate system since 1960;

(2) if he will state the estimated employment arising from successful industrial development certificate applications in non-development areas; and how many jobs were involved in the applications refused.

The information is not available in the form requested by the hon. Member. Industrial Development Certificates approved in Great Britain, outside the development districts in 1960–65 covered 284,000,000 square feet; the additional employment estimated by applicants at the time of seeking approval was 456,000.
